Food safety is a global issue in the current increasingly globalized and rapidly urbanized world. Liberation of trades of goods has resulted in the possibility of producing foods and food products in one place and consumed in a far away place. The distance and time between the production and consumption may at half way other side of the earth or upto few years.

In the process of farm to table various activities are involved. These activities collectively are called food chain. For example a farmer harvest a corn clean the debris sells it to the collector. The collector preserves it from postharvest losses and sells it to the processor. The processor then adds value to the commodity and sells it to the distributor. Through retailer the product reaches the consumer.FoodSupplyChain

In these activities food can be contaminated with various hazard agents and thus render danger to the consumer.
